If, after reading this guide, you have any questions, feel free to contact us and we will be glad to help you out.

Please be certain to follow this list of guidelines when installing or servicing your Stealth hubset:

Cog Installation

To install the cog onto the drive body, use the supplied TORX T-10 wrench. Avoid over-tightening. You can apply loctite 222 or 242 to the screws to prevent loosening. After the first ride, double check that the cog clamp screws are still tight. Re-tighten if necessary. Watch the Cog Installation Video or go to the Instructional Videos page to view all videos.

Break In Period

Our hubs are well sealed against the elements. However, seals do cause drag. After a few rides, the bearings and seals should "break in" and the hub should spin more freely. If drag persists, try adjusting the bearing preload with the wheel installed on the bike. (see below)

Bearing Preload Adjustment

If you experience excessive drag or overly loose wheel, you will need to adjust the bearing preload. This is best if done while the wheel is installed on the bike. On the non-drive side, loosen the 2.5mm socket head screw on the clinch nut. Tighten or loosen the clinch nut to achieve a compromise between drag and wheel shake. When properly adjusted, re-tighten the clinch nut screw. Do not over tighten the clinch nut screw. Watch the Front Hub Preload Adjustment Video and/or the Rear Hub Preload Adjustment Video. For a list of all available videos, see the Instructional Videos page.

Maintenance intervals

In dry climates and riding conditions, once a season is adequate. In wet or extreme climates, the hub will require service more frequently.

ATF clutch lubrication

The engagement mechanism (clutch) is a precision mechanism that requires the correct type of lube to function properly. We require that the clutch be lubed only with Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). If any other type of lubrication is used, especially thick grease, the clutch may not engage properly and the warranty will be voided. Only a small amount of ATF is necessary for re-lubrication, about 1/2 teaspoon is enough, this is about 1-2 drops per clutch roller element. General Warnings

1.
Do not lubricate the clutch with anything other than Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).
2.
Other than cleaning and re-lubricating the rear hub drive mechanism after extended use, the hub should not be disassembled in any way. Any damage caused by this procedure or any modification will void warranty and could cause failure.
3.
Do not use abrasives or solvents to clean hubs.
4.
Always use clean, lint-free rags when cleaning internal parts.
5.
Our hubs are user serviceable and very easy to disassemble. However, any service beyond inspection, cleaning and re-lubricating of the engagement mechanism and bearings should be performed by our factory technicians at our facility.
6.
Radial lacing of our hubs will void the warranty. Radial lacing can cause cracking and possibly failure of the hubshell. We recommend 3 or 4 cross lacing.
Abbreviated Service Overview

A typical service is cleaning, inspection and re-lubing. Full service instructions are available at the Manuals section of our website. Watch the Rear hub Servicing Video or go to the Instructional Videos page to view all videos. A brief overview of a service is as follows: Thoroughly clean the exterior of the hub before dis-assembly. This prevents any contaminants from entering the hub when it is disassembled. Remove the clinch nut and pull out the axle and drive body as a single unit. Remove the axle from the drive body. Inspect the bearings inside the drive body for contamination, roughness and play. Inside the large end of the hubshell is the clutch. Inspect the clutch for dirt or rust. Especially important is the black plastic clutch spring retainer. Check this for cracking or deforming. If everything looks and feels good, lube the clutch with a small amount of ATF and reinstall the drive body into the clutch. Reinstall the axle and tighten the clinch nut. If any damage or roughness is noticed, contact us for replacement parts and further instruction. For detailed instructions and a complete service summary, see the Manuals section of our website.
